Location Scouting

  • Learn the art and importance of location scouting while working to a live brief, under the guidance of an industry experienced Location Manager.

  • Submit your interest via email (See Application) Details)

    1. You will receive a script via Film Buddy and you will be introduced to your assigned Location Manager via the creation of a bespoke What's App group between Film Buddy, Location Manager and yourself to share images and ideas.

    2. Break down the script into a locations list..

    3. Research periods, architecture styles and regions.

    4. Focus on your prior knowledge of locations, either places you have visited, places you live or have lived and where you study.

    5. Collate location suggestions for key locations, presented in a portfolio (any visual software is okay) include images of interiors and exteriors and describe why the location is a candidate for the production and include any key info in relation to it, to help the director understand why you have considered it as an option.

    6. Include key points such as access, location owners, the local council contacts, any key land owners whether private or corporate.

    7. Present your full portfolio of work to the assigned Location Manager via the assigned WhatsApp group and arrange an on-line meeting to discuss and pitch your findings.

    8. Please note that the placement is not designed to add unnecessary pressure to your study or work load, only to act as a extra curricular experience, and you will not be judged if you only complete some or part of the placement. Have fun!

  • This placement is designed to give you the chance to practice your editing skills working alongside a professional editor, who will offer advice and mentorship throughout the process.

    1. Receive (non broadcast) interview footage approx. 45 mins sent to you by Film Buddy.

    2. Edit down the footage to 20mins and include credits You can use any editing software you are comfortable with.

    3. Send first draft to professional editor for approval and notes.

    4. Build industry contacts and improve working practices.
